NOAA Cooperative Institutes Team

Currently NOAA supports 21 Cooperative Institutes in 17 states whose research portfolios range from satellite climatology and fisheries biology to atmospheric chemistry and coastal ecology. For the current list, visit NOAA's CI Program home page.

Experimental Climate Prediction Center (ECPC)

California Applications Program (CAP)

An important part of the ECPC program, striving to improve fire and climate forecasts in California.

ARGO

Argo provides a new source of data from the top 2 km of the ocean. It uses a fleet of robotic floats that spend most of their life at depth and that surface regularly to make the temperature and salinity profile measurements.   The floats are contributed by many countries but all data are freely available.

The Global Drifting Center (GDC) and Data Assembly Center (DAC)

Based in Miami, Florida, and operated by NOAA and the Atlantic Oceanic and Meteorological Laboratory, the GDC launches global drifting units; the DAC then relays data from these units to researchers around the world.

California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigation (CALCOFI)

The California Oceanic Cooperative Fisheries Investigations (CalCOFI) are a unique partnership of the California Department of Fish and Game, the NOAA Fisheries Service and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

San Diego Coastal Ocean Observing System (SDCOOS)

The San Diego Coastal Ocean Observing System provides a gateway for up-to-date oceanographic, weather, and water quality data for the San Diego coastal region.
