Freshwater Ecology Research CollaborationPeter Adams (UCSC, NOAA Fisheries)Link to NOAA Strategic Plan: NOAA's Mission Goal 1: Protect, Restore, and Manage the Use of Coastal and Ocean Resources through Ecosystem-based Management RESEARCH OBJECTIVES AND SPECIFIC PLANS TO ACHIEVE THEMJonathan Moore is a new Assistant Professor in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Division of the University of California, Santa Cruz, starting in January 2008. Dr. Moore’s research will focus on the causes and ecological consequences of population dynamics of Pacific salmon, an ecologically and culturally important group of species many of which are listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). His research will investigate the dynamics of freshwater ecosystems—how streams and lakes function, and how human activities impact that function. In particular, he will try to understand how species interactions and disturbances drive ecosystem processes, community dynamics, and evolution in freshwaters. This research has conservation and management implications and will be important in defining appropriate ESA actions. This project will begin in January 2008, upon Dr. Moore’s arrival, and will continue for the first year of his research at UCSC. |
